How to Create a Website
The first step in creating a website from scratch is answering one question, why do you want a website? If it's for personal use, maybe photos or hobbies; or if it's for a business, a non-profit organization, or even a club- that's fine, as well; but you need to know what the purpose of your website is prior to starting, because with that answered- the rest falls gracefully in place and your ready to make your own website.
The second step to create a website from scratch requires a little more effort and some research, not to mention a few dollars. You will need to find a hosting company to service your website. Another important step is trying to find the right URL, often referred to as a Domain Name and Host Otter has all the Domain Name Registrations to aid you in finding the perfect site. This may mean looking through pages and pages of web hosting companies, or you may just choose a cheap web hosting provider, if you're planning on doing this yourself; look for web hosting companies with good support networks and if possible, with good website building tools.
Now, this is when it gets a little complicated; these steps involve thinking and time. If you don't have either- stop at the second step and find a hosting company that offers marketing plans for website creation or a website builder package. But let's say you have the time to sit down and plan this website out- you will need an outline. In the computer world, this is known as a sitemap. Imagine your website is a town in a foreign country and you want to sit down and give your audience the map on how to get around this town. This navigation tool helps you clearly outline your website; it involves looking at all aspects and goals you have. For example, if you are selling handmade earrings; your site map may include a diagram that states the main idea of your website; what do you want to be the first and most important thing your audience sees or reads on your title page; next, do you want your audience to be able to click on each picture for individual descriptions and prices- or do you want them to be able to see the prices immediately? These are all things you need to consider when making out your sitemap.

After you have a good outline or sitemap; it's time to really dive into the really important stuff- the content of your WebPages. If the above example, you may want one web page devoted to the type of materials you use in making your handmade earrings; you may want one page devoted to telling the audience about yourself and your company. Write or type this content- leave room for pictures, any chart sizes, and other needed files that should be added to the web pages. It's important that you do all this at once; otherwise, you'll be one of those websites that is "under construction". Content pages should also be filled with Search Engine Optimization copy. Okay- that's a big word that you probably have never heard; but basically it means that you need to create content pages with key words and phrases that describes your website. You need to put these in your web page headings and titles in order to get the search engine's attention. In the example above, maybe use "Handmade Earrings"; "Homemade Earrings", "One of a kind Earrings"- you get the point.
The final step is putting all this on-line. If you have chosen a hosting company with cheap domain names; they may offer a website builder for you to use. If so, they are great and pretty easy to use; there are templates that basically allow you to put in text and photos; as well, they usually ask you specific questions regarding your keyword and SEO information. If there is no website builder available through your hosting company, you can purchase software to do this. As well, you will probably need to find a domain name; this is the www.blah blah that you have seen on the Internet. Domain names need to be registered; most hosting companies will offer this service- some for free, some for really inexpensive prices.
